Grinding Maize, also known by other names, was part of a project of Leopoldo Mendez (1902 - 1969) consisting of 12 lithograph prints of the Mexican people, printed in 1946 in New York in editions of 1500. His catalogue raisonne notes that an unknown number of high quality offset lithographs were also produced, of which this example is one.

The print grey tones convey the gritty work of grinding maize as part of daily life and sustenance.

Height: 22
Width: 18

Condition
The print appears to be in excellent condition, though the frame suffers some minor paint losses in a couple of places. Very high quality pastel matting was used to offset the dark tones of the ink.
