The cast and hand-chased silver ewer of baluster form on a domed circular foot, the body decorated overall in repoussé and chased relief with floral motifs and a continuous ‘Castle Pattern” landscape scene featuring architectural elements including domed and turreted buildings, trees, and a perimeter wall, as well as a monogrammed cartouche, the foot with conforming foliate elements, applied cast handle of angular form, with ram’s head terminal at the top and foliate details along its length.
Our appraiser further dates this fine ewer to 1846-1861. He further states that the purity is 11/12, the silver deriving from French coins.
