You can see from the ruggedly engineered form why some of these devices survived - preservation of beauty. Made by American Machine Company, and offered as The Fluting Machine, this antique cast iron fluting machine enabled seamtresses to conveniently impress pleats and flutes into ladies' clothing. The hand crank has a wood handle, while the crimpers made of brass did the heavy work. It is mounted security to a cast iron base. The underside is marked American Manufacturing Co; the top is marked Eagle Pat. Nov. 2, 1875.

This machine is one of 6 models offered by the company, this one being the more portable of the hand crank versions. It also offered 2 lengths of rolls with 15, 18, and 22 flutes. Additional parts originally included a table clamp to secure the fluter to a flat surface, 4 wrought iron heaters, and a lifter. We offer only the fluter.
