An antique Centennial International Exhibition souvenir scarf from the famed world's fair which coincided with the 100 year anniversary of the Declaration of Independence signed in the city of freedom. The red linen scarf features 4 cartouches depicting the Main Exhibition Building, The Machinery Hall, The Agriculture Hall, and The Horticulture Hall. The main building taking center stage is the Memorial Hall Art Building. A spread winged eagle perched on a stars and stripes shield watches over the buildings. It is difficult to overstate the beauty and symbolism of this scarf.

The scarf is mounted on white acid free backing, framed in black.

The 1876 Centennial Exposition had its roots in The Great Central Fair of 1864 held in Philadelphia which could be viewed as a prequel to the centennial event. The Crystal Palace Great Exhibition in London in 1851 also inspired the planners for an equally great demonstration of American progress. Overcoming political obstacles, and using federal funds, the exposition ran for 6 months on 285 acres of land on Fairmount Park covered with 250 pavillions. Over 1/5 of the American population attended the fair with 2000 coming from California.
