An antique Chinese carved jade vase featuring 2 equipoised outward facing mythical birds whose feathers envelop the basal region of the baluster form vase. The flaring neck is incised with herringbone style marks, finished with lobed lip. Angular handles hold 2 jade rings. The nephrite is variegated celadon green with pale russet veining and blue-grey mineral inclusions.
This finely carved vase dates to the late Qing dynasty or Republic period. The underside has an apocryphal mark. The archaistic style reproduces 18th C. fashion.
