An antique Chinese carved wood foo dog, from a single piece of hollow wood, with upright muscular body adorned with deeply incised fur patterns, a flowing mane, and expressive facial features, with one clawed paw resting upon a ball, the whole on a plain circular base. We date this foo to late Qing dynasty.
Chinese Foo Dog (Shishi, or Imperial Guardian Lion), is often seen in Chinese culture as a symbol of protection, strength, and prosperity.
