A wonderful antique Japanese Arita rouge de fer style bowl with gold accents whose primary depiction is that of the deity Jurojin accompanied by a deer, a symbol of longevity. The vignette is surrounded by a herringbone band and centered in a large medallion with cardinal points of north, east, south, west.
The exterior of the bowl is decorated with a diaper of palm leaves and a garland of flowers, leaves, and ribbons. The center is marked with the Fuku symbol of happiness. Altogether, this Meiji period, hand painted bowl with its monochromatic rouge de fer is a bowl of positiveness.
