A fine carved ivory Japanese netsuke in the form of a toad with expressive eyes and dimpled skin atop a leaf with naturalistic veins carved on the underside. A small turtles clambers onto the back. The carving is excellent and sophisticated with natural realism.
This netsuke dates from the Meiji period and is signed on the underside.
NOTE: This ivory is NOT elephant ivory which is restricted by the Endangered Species Act, et. al.
