Bing & Grondahl
Founded in Copenhagen in 1853 by sculptor Frederik Vilhelm Grøndahl and the Bing merchant family, Bing & Grøndahl became one of Denmark’s most respected porcelain manufacturers. The company quickly earned recognition for its refined craftsmanship, sculptural figures, and distinctive underglaze decoration. Its porcelain combined technical excellence with the restrained elegance associated with Danish design traditions.
During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Bing & Grøndahl gained international acclaim through works created by leading Danish artists, particularly the painter and designer Pietro Krohn. The factory’s famous Christmas plates, first issued in 1895, became widely collected worldwide. Today Bing & Grøndahl porcelain remains admired for its artistic modeling, luminous glazes, and enduring place in the history of Scandinavian decorative arts.
