This 19th century lithograph, based on a painting by Charles Bird King, first appeared in The History of the Indian Tribes of North America, compiled by Thomas L. McKenney (1785-1859), Superintendent of Indian Affairs, and James Hall (1793-1868), a lawyer and journalist. Published in three volumes by Edward C. Biddle, 1836; Frederick W. Greenough, 1838; and James G. Clark and Daniel Rice, 1844.
Beautifully framed in black with gold lining this hand colored lithograph depicts Obijway chief Caa-Tou-See.
