D. F. Haynes & Co

D. F. Haynes & Co.
D. F. Haynes & Co. was an American ceramics firm established by David Francis Haynes (1835 - 1908), emerging from the earlier wholesale business Ammidon and Company. Haynes assumed full control in 1877 and, in 1882, acquired the Chesapeake Pottery works in Baltimore, positioning the firm as a significant producer of decorative and utilitarian ceramics during a formative period in American pottery.

The company developed a reputation for combining industrial production with artistic design, reflecting late 19th century interest in both historical revival styles and emerging decorative trends. Ownership passed through several hands but ultimately returned to the Haynes family before the firm ceased operations in 1914.

Today, D. F. Haynes & Co. wares are collected as representative examples of transitional American ceramics, bridging Victorian production and early 20th century decorative arts, with particular interest in figural and revivalist forms.
