A gorgeous antique French cameo glass vase produced at the Saint Louis glass firm whose d'Argental line operated under the direction of master glass maker Paul Nicolas who himself was a former employee of Emile Galle. The bullet shaped vase has a warm autumnal orange golden ground on which leaves and voluptuous budding flowers are carved. The naturalistic flow of the flowers and turns of the leaves make it an archtype of Nicolas' work and shows the world why his work is still in demand today.
The vase bears the d'Argental mark with the Cross of Lorraine, indicating work by Nicolas which we date to c. 1920.
Given his tutelage by Galle, Nicolas' works are of high quality and compare favorably to his master. His style and media evolved with the change of styles to Art Deco, World War 2, and the visicitudes found in the glass world thereafter.
