A Bibliographical Mystery in a 1769 Copy of Nouvelle Anthologie Françoise
This article examines the provenance of a 1769 copy of Nouvelle Anthologie Françoise. Evidence indicates that the flyleaf bears a bibliographical annotation written by the historian and bibliophile Louis Nicolas Jean Joachim de Cayrol. The note identifies Claude-Sixte Sautreau de Marsy, editor of the anthology, and appears to direct readers to a bibliographical reference in Barbier. Although the final reference has not yet been fully deciphered, the principal meaning of the inscription is now substantially understood.
